Dance apron, Papua

$1.00

I love showing my collection to visiting friends and acquaintances and they are usually transfixed by the beauty of this object from Papua. While artefacts from Indonesia’s easternmost province are often associated with penis gourds, spears, masks, and shields, people in Cendrawasih Bay area have created beaded aprons worn by dancers at ceremonies or used as dowries. The geometric patterns look so contemporary and dazzling at the same time.
